PSHE & Personal Development
PSHE Intent
At City of Peterborough Academy, we offer a dynamic Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Through our PSHE education students follow three core of themes of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World, exploring how to stay healthy and safe. Our comprehensive PSHE curriculum supports students’ personal development and economic wellbeing, through a spiral curriculum where learning and skills are revisited and built upon year on year in age-appropriate stages.
The programme of study identifies a broad range of important issues allowing students to reflect on their learning and its implications for their life, raise awareness and increase motivation leading to improved academic and personal success.
Our PSHE provision follows statutory guidance and supports our students to make positive choices around relationships, mental health with active, healthy lifestyles including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). RSE is about emotional, social and cultural development of students, considering and exploring sexual health, sexuality, diversity and personal identity under the statutory guidance. The aim of RSE is to give young people the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships all kinds. In addition to lessons students will participate in workshops, guest speakers and assemblies.
PSHE is an important and necessary part of all students education allowing the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future through our creative, engaging and dynamic PSHE curriculum.
Personal Development Intent
To complement to our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, at City of Peterborough Academy students also participate in tutor led Personal Development sessions during pastoral times.
During tutor session students engage in current affairs, ethics and social issues which promote critical thinking, debate and decision making, Personal Development allows students to explore their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) identity whilst developing an understanding of fundamental British Values.
Ensuring students are empowered through a broad and balanced curriculum which celebrates diversity and helps students to feel part of an inclusive school community. Our high- quality Personal Development programme helps to provide students with knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them to play a full and active part in their community and wider world.
Our Personal Development programme enables students to have a belief in achieving their goals, perseverance as well as the personal attributes of honesty, integrity, courage, kindness, generosity, trustworthiness and a sense of justice.
Our Personal Development provision ensures students develop the understanding and skill to become responsible, respectful and active citizens creating an inclusive environment to support all students.
