Attendance

It is very important that our pupils attend school all the time so that they do not miss any vital learning.

Please click here to read our attendance policy.

Absence Procedure

If your child is ill and cannot attend school, a parent or guardian must call the Main Office before 8.15am each day of the absence.

Tips for Improving your Child’s attendance

Set a Routine: Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.

Prepare Ahead: Pack your child's bag and lay out their uniform the night before.

Discuss Education: Talk about the benefits of education and the importance of good qualifications.

Plan Wisely: Schedule medical appointments, outings and holidays outside of school hours.

Communicate: Contact your child's Head of Year promptly if there are any concerns or anxieties.

Promote Hygiene: Encourage healthy hygiene practices to ensure daily attendance.

Student Illness

On the occasions that your child is feeling unwell, it can be challenging to know whether they are well enough to attend or not. Please use the guide below to assess whether they should come to school.

Impact on Learning

Students with less than 90% attendance (persistently absent) have only a 36% chance of achieving 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.

What happens if your child does not attend school?

If a student has 10 unauthorised absences within a 10-week period, a Penalty Notice may be issued. Each school day has two sessions: morning (AM) and afternoon (PM). So, one full day of absence counts as two sessions.

Penalty Notices:

If you do wish us to consider a Planned Absence, please complete a Term Time Absence Request Form, available at the Academy reception. Please note though, that completion of this request does not imply that the absence will be authorised by the Academy.
