Careers Guidance

Every pupil is given opportunities for careers guidance with an external Level 6 Careers Advisor. They should be expected for all pupils but should be timed to meet their individual needs.

Every pupil should have at least one such interview by the age of 16, and the opportunity for a further interview by the age of 18. (Gatsby Benchmark 8)

We offer all students the opportunity to meet with a qualified Careers Advisor for independent careers advice. These are typically 50 minute interviews with each student in either Year 10 or Year 11. During these interviews, students will be encouraged to talk about their ambitions. The Careers Advisor will then identify possible next steps (e.g. Further Education or Apprenticeships).

Students will receive a summary of their discussion under the Teacher Items section of their Unifrog locker. This is a document the student can refer back to as they make their choices for when they leave CoPA. Additional support is offered to students as required.

Labour Market Information

Every pupil, and their parents, should have access to good-quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities.

Students receive Labour Market Information during Tutor time, with careers information also sent home through parent newsletters.

By the age of 14, all pupils should have accessed and used information about career paths and the labour market to inform their own decisions on study options. Parents should be encouraged to access and use information about labour markets and future study options to inform their support to their children. (Gatsby Benchmark 2)
